The Shrine Pontifical Mass Continues with the Photography of Matthew Barrick

Does anyone think that the Pontifical Mass at the Throne at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception was a one-off occasion?  Not so!  

The Paulus Institute arranged to record the Pontifical Mass in both video and still photography to continue its impact and influence beyond a single occurrence and place.  The object was to capture the devotion, beauty, reverence, and artistry of the Pontifical Mass in the unique setting of the National Shrine, the largest Catholic church in North America.

The outstanding camera work of the EWTN broadcast, live and worldwide, with commentators who explained the ceremonies and texts,  provided viewers with an experience not available even to the congregation in the Shrine.  That experience is now available on the Shrine’s YouTube channel.  The Ordinary and Proper texts of the Mass are in the program posted on The Paulus Institute website.

To capture both the grandeur of the Basilica and details of the sacred ministers and the congregation,  we also retained  Matthew Barrick Photography. From the stills he produced, we have selected images that can continue to promote the Traditional Mass. These images not only portray the beauty of the Mass from the professionally trained eye, but also illustrate various characteristics of the Traditional Mass for catechetical purposes.  Here are the themes we chose:

• Liturgical Art and Architecture

But we need your help.

To do this and more, we still need your contributions to support The Paulus Institute.  There are unavoidable costs for the presentation of such a Pontifical Mass, which is now a world standard for the celebration of the Sacred Liturgy for the Catholic faithful. In particular, we ask those who contributed to our 2010 Pontifical Shrine Mass with gifts of $500 and even $1,000 to help us with this Mass as well. Contributions of $100 or $50 or $25 dollars, or as you desire, will be equally appreciated. And please keep us in your prayers.
